Underground Mixtapes of the Year.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday. Yes, the staff is still on a vacation until JAN.3rd BUT as promise, where going to provide our top 6 underground mix-tapes of the year. Now the list consist of only the artist we've reviewed, which is a very small list, considering we've only been in existence since November. But, here goes.

1] Devils Reject [ US MUZIQ ]

Grade: A-
2011 Follow up: N/A
The Devils Reject was a great body of work, a little short of a classic but differently the best mixtape I've reviewed from a underground stand-point though Draco s Thank Me Whenever gave them a run for their top spot.

2] Draco[ C.Lightys Alter-Ego ] - Thank Me Whenever 

Grade: B+
Follow Up: N/A and to be honest, I don't know where this guy is or if he's even still rapping. I hope he is, because this mixtape was amazing.

3] Shome - Habitat For Humanity

Grade: C
2011 Follow up: N/A but I've heard a new song from his untitled mixtape, song shows progress.

4] C.Lighty - The C.Lighty LP

Grade: B-
2011 Follow Up: Like his Alter-Ego, C.Lighty pretty much is gone, and I'm not even sure on his rapping status. The C.Lighty LP was a good body of work, and showed C.Lighty finally finding his sounds. I had a hard time on rather or not to put The C.Lighty LP over Shome's Habitat for Humanity but in the end, Shome came out on top to finish in the top 4.

5] TiE! LT Money [ Cardiac Arrest and Julian Rhymes and Hakeems No Beef Intended

LT-Moneys Cardiac Arrests and No Beef Intended both revived out a D-. Like I said in the review, all three sound like guys rapping. Theirs a difference between rapping and rapping with substance or with concepts. I've heard a song from LT Moneys 2011 follow up, Flat-Line and it shows progress.

I ALSO thought, C.Lightys and his Alter-Ego's mixtape, The C.Lighty EP and Two Faced Beauty where much better then both of these mixtapes. [ They Both Received a C- and C+ respectively. But I thought, it would be uncool to have this guy with four mixtapes on the top five.



And with that, we officially conclude our first year in existence. Its been a great start, where now averaging 52hits a day, which is pretty awesome. I Hope EVERYONE, has a great new years, and make sure to bring 2011 in with a bang!

The former NY Jets employee who allegedly received penis photos from Brett Favre also claims she got a text message from the NFL legend ... in which he asks her for a video of her masturbating -- this according to sources connected to the investigation. We're told Jenn Sterger received the sexual request back in late 2008 -- months after Favre allegedly sexted over the pics of little Brett.

It's unclear if Sterger has turned over the video request text message to the NFL -- which is currently investigating Favre to see if he violated the league's personal conduct policy.

Calls to Favre's camp have not been returned. Sterger's manager and lawyer have also declined to comment.

The Devil's Reject Review

We finish off our " Underground Artist Review " With a up and coming duo coming from New York called " US MUZIQ or The Zombeez " We've been promoting these guys on the site all week and now its time to get into the review of, The Devil's Rejects. The first track, The Devils Rejects creates the tone for the mixtape. Think of a hip-hop version of Resident Evil. " Rejected by the devil its the devils rejects! " Right off the back you understand the way these guys work, OZ and Gray combine together with amazing concepts and classic punchlines. Killswitch carry's on the " Resident Evil, Dark Hip-Hop Vibe " " Everyday Is Halloween and I'm Michail Myers!" Track number five, I'm Possessed, is just straight fucking fire. From the beat to the lyrics. The next few tracks follow on the same emotion, like  the hood after a mass take-over of zombies. You don't really get a break I should say from this sound until, Can't Sleep by OZ, which is one of my favorites on the mixtape because it shows the versatility of the group. " Some things not meant to be, some people never change." The next following tracks, which is What you be doing to me, Dream Girl and Just the Way you Like it, follow along the same path as Can't Sleep, but in a way its kind of telling a story or somewhat of a transition of love.  The Devil's rejects comes to its end, track 18, Come out and Play is very sick and Young Sparks Verse is crazy! The last track, Where you wanna be ft. Killa Tracks finishes up the mixtape very well.

Final Rating: A-

Final Thoughts: What The Devil Reject is going to do for you, is get you hocked, somewhat. The mixtape has a consistent sound to it. Like I said, its very street and gritty, filled with punchlines and crazy beats. Am I going to play some some songs at a club, maybe, but I think that's what the mixtape lacks. What stopped this mixtape from getting a perfect A+, was the lack of club songs. It had everything else, lyrics,beats,wordplay,concepts even the skits on this thing where crazy. But while listing to The Devils Reject, I never wanted to get off my bed in just dance. Not absolutely a bad thing, because most New York rappers don't provide dance music. But overall, The Devils Reject is a incredible body of work.

Thank Me Whenever Review

If you don't know, Draco is the ALTER-EGO of C.Lighty and unfortunately, Draco once again comes out on top. Draco's first mixtape, Two Faced Beauty was one of my favorites, and unlike The C.Lighty EP it had lots of replay value and a month after its release i'm still bumping to some of the songs. When I found out that Draco was dropping another mixtape this month I was curious on rather or not he was going to be able to improve. TMW starts off with a solid intro, which leads into a track titled "Pikachu", yes he named a track after a pokemon. But like pokemon, this shit is just fucking beast. The First four songs of the mixtape is just jam-packed with lyrics. Then your taking into what I like to call, The love part of the mixtape [ Speechless, Say Whats Real feat Adrian Jackson, I'll Be Good Feat Stephen Smith and In a Daze feat Young Murquise. ] All the love songs hit different emotions, Say Whats Real is a slow-jam, i'll be good is sort of a revenge girlfriend song, Speechless sorta the same song as Say Whats Real and In a Daze is a female anthem. In between the love session is a song titled " Good To Go" feat yelawolf, which is one of my favorites on the mixtape. From the love section we enter the concept section, With songs like Can you stand the Rain, Light It Up feat Drake[ Draco has a solid verse on this one], and Sincerely the unsigned rapper. The Mixtape ends with the anthem, Loser feat C.Lighty.

Final Rating: B+

Final Thought: Thank Me Whenever pretty much delivers a upgraded version of Two Faced Beauty. The mixtape is solid from the intro to the last song, Loser. Draco is growing and developing into a very good artist.

The C.Lighty LP REVIEW

The C.Lighty LP does what the EP failed to do. Which is keep me listing to the ENTIRE mixtape, more then once.Don't get me wrong, I liked the EP but after a few times of listing to it, the thing lost its edge. The C.Lighty LP shows a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT from the EP. While the EP was walking along the kiddish ways of Lighty, the LP seems to really show the growth of this artist. The Mixtape starts with a formillar song, Revenge of The Nerd. Which for those of you who checked King Lighty[ Which dropped late last year ] Your formillar with Lightys message-filled concepts. This song was debuted on the EP, but after another sick song it faded away to a bunch of pop records. The LP contines the mood with songs like Studio Gangsta and To Late feat Cole Thompson[ Lightys verse on that song is Classic.
 The mixtape keeps going with a song called Kush [ which is actually Dr.Dre's new single for his upcoming album.] After that you sent into a roller coaster of emotions, from the song titled " Anywhere " Where C.Lighty talks about being suicidal and people saying he couldn't do it. Then hit with two songs from the EP [ Crazy and I like the way which adds a different fell to the mixtape.] To a song titled help, where C.Lighty raps about how he sometimes regrets his decision to rap because he fells Satin is plotting his death, form their we enter I need a Doctor feat Skylar Gray, which is a INCREDIBLE Song and filled with great lyrics and wordplay. The Mixtape heads toward its end with the ONLY pop song on the mixtape, Can't Stop Me. A New INCREDIBLE club song titled Sin for a Minute. Then, the mixtape ends with the best lyrics on the entire mixtape in the song, I Believe I can Fly" They Told Me I couldn't do it, I use their hate as fucking fluid.".

Final Thoughts: The LP is a great mixtape, and I've already listen to the thing a few times and has yet to grow tired of any of the songs. One thing I like about this kid is he keeps you guessing, from the stand-point that his mixtapes don't sound repetitive, theirs a song on here that attacks every emotion. What I also found interesting was the fact that, Lighty seemed to find his sound on this mixtape. With the EP his sound was all-over the place, from a sweet and happy C.Lighty that sounded like Asher Roth in a little Tupac to the depressed Lighty that sounded like Modern day Eminem. When I listen to the LP, I hear one artist, not Tupac or Asher roth, maybe a little Eminem. But overall, I hear C.Lighty.

What J.Coles Newest Mixtape Proves is that, J.Cole might not be able to provide anything less then a great mixtape or verse. Friday Night Lights has been downloaded over 100,000 times on datpiff since its November release. I remember a while back, when everybody thought J.Cole was another Drake. Since then, J.Cole has evolved into a artist of his own and one to be feared. The mixtape features Drake, in the hit song, IN the Mourning. Wale teaming with Ross!?

No official statement has been made of yet, but it looks as though Wale may have inked a new deal. The Washington, DC native made a series of Tweets on Friday hinting that he had a new deal with Rick Ross Maybach Music Group.

Ross' label is under the Def Jam umbrella and is also home to the likes of Triple C's, Young Breed and Gunplay. Wale dropped his 2009 debut Attention Deficit on Interscope, we'll keep you posted on this as it develops. Now Wale was originally signed to Interscope, in which he received 1.3million for a deal. Since then he's dropped one solo album, Attention Deficit, which I'm 100% not a fan of!

Early Review: The Original song is done by Eminem but C.Lighty does a GREAT job with changing the concepts. It sounds like he's back to his King Lighty days, and this song is really good and already shows MAJOR improvement from The C.Lighty EP and the Lyrics and Story on this song is amazing!

New things from Roth and Nottz!

XXL Freshman alumni, Asher Roth, and producer/rapper Nottz Raw have teamed up to release their free Rawth EP on Monday, December 27. The two met while Roth was finishing his debut album Asleep In The Bread Aisle and began to devolve a working relationship, which led to the project. With beats by Nottz and verses from both MCs, the Rawth will be available for download just after Christmas. (XXL Mag) The two also release a video for " Won't Cha be my neighbor" A song that appeared on Nottz mixtape.

Yo Gotti Wanted by Police!

Rappers Yo Gotti and OG Boo Dirty are among 11 people wanted in connection with a fight that happened outside the Level II nightclub on Nov. 29. A police affidavit states that Lance Taylor, a.k.a. OG Boo Dirty, and Mario Mims, a.k.a. Yo Gotti, "were involved in a verbal altercation." A third man got involved, and Boo Dirty allegedly punched him. A fight ensued, resulting in six people shot. Three were struck in the buttocks, one in the wrist and one in the shoulder, according to the affidavit. The sixth victim was an off-duty security guard, who was standing about 40 yards from the melee. Neither Yo Gotti nor OG Boo Dirty is in custody, as of Saturday night. (WREG News)

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Review By: Sam Grenade

If you grow up anywhere from 1988 - 2000, your know about  the lighting bolt marked, billion dollar maker, greatest wizard of all time, the one that we know as Harry Potter. I personally have grown up with this guy, I remember getting the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, Christmas mourning  1999. Since then I've read all the books, following Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione from the hallways of Hogwarts to The Chamber of Secrets to the Ministry of Magic. I remember going to see Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone on film for the first time [ I won a pair of tickets to go see the first showing.] Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows, the film, brings the same thing the book brought to Potter Fans worldwide, the end of the series. Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows is a very dark movie and I'm somewhat surprise the movie was ever considered for a PG rating. If your a regular to the series, rather it be the movies or the books I suggest you go back and maybe read the last book or watch the past two movies, if your not a fan of the series and decided to just go see it, your going to be confused to the tenth power! The acting is the best of the series, and Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows might take home the award for best scenery possible. I mean I literally wanted to jump in the screen in live where Harry in the Gang where camping in this movie. But remember when you where reading the book, and you where thinking " Damn....Their still camping!" You turn a few pages maybe a chapter or two and you think to yourself again. " Damn...THEIR STILL CAMPING!" I would say about 65% percent of this movie is camping. But the music, dialogue and like I said, the acting make up for it. Their was alot of little things that where left out such as, when Harry and Hermione was at the grave in Grodrics Hollow and Harry found the grave or the passionate scene with Harry and Dobbie as the little free elf died. Theirs more small things that they decided to leave out but I won't say more to contain spoilers. The movie itself is split into two parts, and part one basically does its job. Gives you one or two action packed scenes and a movie that wets your taste buds, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Part 1 does what the directors wanted it to do. Make billions of dollars and make you want to see Part 2. With all that being said, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Part 1 gets a 9/10!

So big butts are officially called Bum-Bums

At first, I thought this mixtape was a flat-out D- which is on the borderline for a F. But after giving this bad boy a good listen, I can say with confidence it deserves a D+, just a few songs away from a C rating. Lets face it, LT MONEY is dirty south in and out. The lyrics are very basic and predictable and on somes songs their does not seem to be a message at all just a bunch of dudes rappin, using metaphors and very basic punchlines. Songs like Broken Promises show LT Moneys talents and provides the mixtape with a different vibe, seeing how the entire thing is like watching a action packed movie, you literally want to go outside and straight party all night, the energy from this mixtape is that amped, which is a good thing. Theirs room for improvements such as concepts, unpredictable lyrics and  songs that don't get old quick. The mixtape is like Lil Wayne, you ever like the quick punchlines and auto-tune filled songs or you don't.

So we start off our second double artist of the week feature, with a small duo from Fort Mill,SC
who was recommended to me by a former Artist of the week feature, Chapel Lighty. The duo consisting of Julian and Hakeem is a rap ground with promise. Not that much feedback as far as major mixtape drops, so we at Planet Cool well treat this mixtape as a debut. So with that, lets

Now I can relate to this song, somewhat, because the original appeared
on C.Lightys first mixtape, King Lighty. But just like when I heard the original
I was pretty clueless on what or who they where talking about. But I'm sure
the Fort Mill fans loved the song.

Final Thoughts: No Beef Intended has so much promise. When I hear Julian and Hakeem I hear
potential. Talents that need molding and more work to become competitive and today's hip-hop
world. On one side there was some catchy songs like Lets Go Get this money and I'm Taking off
that had all the makings for a hit radio single. Then there was all the money songs and songs
like What you Wanna do, Dripping and What Chu Gonna Do with that, that just sounded repetitive.
The mixtape traveled along the same road, meaning it just had one sound to it, there was no
songs that took me to one emotion or the other, all the songs just attacked one emotion. Still
No Beef Intended is a worthy mixtape that you should check out.

The Deandre Way [ Review ]

The Deandre Way is the third studio album from dance phenomenon, Soulja Boy. To make a long review short, The Deandre Way is your typical Soulja Boy album, You got the beat filled dance anthem in Pretty Boy Swag, the lollipop kid love song in Blowing Me kissess and the super pop song in Speakers Going Hammer . The lyrics are a 2/5 at best, the beats around the same rating. The Deandre way shows improvement from a artist that has been criticize more then President Bush.....maybe not. But the improvements are minimum and The Deandre Way does not prove at all, that SouljaBoyTellem is  ready to compete.
